By Air
Air Canada Express has 3 flights a day into and out of Prince Rupert. Digby Island is home to Prince Rupert’s airport, which also accommodates charter planes. Scheduled flights meet a convenient ferry to the mainland, and then it’s just a short drive (or bus ride) to the centre of town. Water taxi service is also available to meet private flights. Additionally, helicopter and float plane travel is available from independent operators, serving tourists and travellers to the smaller, outlying islands.
By Sea
Arriving in Prince Rupert by boat is breathtaking.
BC Ferries and the Alaska Marine Highway provide convenient service via the awe-inspiring Inside Passage. The Kaein Island ferry terminal is just ten minutes from downtown by taxi. Though private vessels do make the trip, it can be a challenge on the open ocean, and tandem travel is recommended.
By Rail
The train is one of the most relaxed and scenic ways to to get to Prince Rupert.
The city lies at the end of the Prince Rupert-Jasper line –a leisurely 32 hour journey full of history and tradition, and across varied landscapes. The storied, heritage Prince Rupert train station provides all modern traveller services, and lies at the south end of town. If the romance of rail travel appeals to you, Via Rail runs three trains per week to the city.
By Land
Prince Rupert lies about 1500 km from both Vancouver and Calgary, at the end (or start) of the Yellowhead Highway. It’s a long road (18 hours straight through!), but there are plenty of reasons to stop and explore along the way.
The elusive Spirit Bear makes its home along this magical route. Driving through national parks and coastal mountains, and along the impressive Skeena River makes the journey as rewarding as the destination– a truly memorable road trip.
